Why should you choose Whiskers and Wags Pet Sitting to care for your animal when you can’t be there yourself?
Because you want someone who genuinely loves animals.
You wouldn’t choose a childcare provider who doesn’t love children, right? And you want to choose a pet sitter who brings the commitment to your pet’s well-being that only comes from really loving animals. If Spud, Kylie, Findus, and Lukas (my three cats and one dog) could talk, they’d enthusiastically endorse my animal lover bone fides, as would the hundreds of animals in need from local shelters I’ve fostered and found loving homes for.
Because you want someone who combines love of animals with knowledge and experience.
If love of animals was the only criterion, your neighbor’s teenage kid would be your pet sitter. But knowledge of animal health and behavior is as important as loving animals. I have more than thirty years of experience working with animals as a veterinary assistant, stable manager and horseback riding instructor, and pet sitter. I’ve been fostering shelter cats and dogs for almost twenty years, and working with these sometimes sick, injured, and traumatized animals has helped me develop some key pet sitting skills: identifying behavior that signals when an animal is sick or stressed and knowing what to do to help that animal, and medicating pets, including pilling, giving injections and subcutaneous fluids. I am also Red Cross Pet First Aid certified. My own pets and the animals I’ve fostered have helped me develop the most important skill--knowing how to interact with animals in a way that makes them feel comfortable and secure, whether it’s walking your dog around the neighborhood or giving your kitty some lap time during a pet sitting visit.
Because you want someone who is reliable, dependable and trustworthy.
You are, after all, entrusting your pet sitter with a cherished member of your family.
